EXPERIENCE KERALA

Being too busy or too fast to make sure that you have visited all the places, will not allow you to experience the calmness of what this place is actually all about. So it’s time to go a little unconventional and be a traveller who falls in love with the place and not a tourist.

HERITAGE

Far away from the big resorts, the actual beauty of Kerala lies at its heart, with women clad in bright coloured saris, the children playing by the water, the fishermen at work, and the coasts dotted with temples and houses. Delving into the untrailed paths will give you an actual experience of what a Keralite’s life is.

BACKWATERS

An idyllic image of Kerala to a lot of people around the world is the one in which the Keralan Snake boats are racing ahead in the backwaters of Alappuzha. That is definitely Kerala, but seeing it doesn’t count as experiencing it, does it? Only participating in one would let you feel the adrenaline rush as well as the quaint sense of calmness that accompanies it. The Snake boat race which is called as the Vallam Kali in the vernacular language is a ride that you will remember for life.

BEACHES

The beach village of Mararikulam, is Kerala at its original best. The village sings the quiet mood of its inhabitants, who are majorly fishermen, with which you can’t help but fall in love. After having the delightful cuisine of Kerala prepared with the freshest of fish caught and cooked immediately, time slips away perfectly as you sit in the shade of the Keralan boats and gaze at the beach, watching the dolphins and turtles by the beachside in the afternoon. And Bingo! You have just lived the life of a Keralite villager, not being in a hurry to finish seeing all the places but by experiencing the life of a villager.

MOUNTAINS

Still untouched by commercialisation, the hill station of Munnar is the perfect gateaway to relax in Kerala. It was originally discovered by the British as a centre to grow tea and relax during the summers. To this day it rightly serves that purpose. Sipping tea sitting right amidst the picturesque plantations of tea, or fishing in the small streams and cooking them immediately to savour your senses and watching the birds fly by in the sky chirping, can only be described as heavenly.

WILDLIFE

Being the boundary to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady definitely oozes the forest – like feel and also houses a lot of unadulterated trekking routes in Kerala. During a trek in one of these not-so-often trailed paths, don’t be surprised if you feel like you are getting stuck because time has a habit of slipping away in the quietness of these forests, but this will only give you a sense of peaceful solitude. Be it the trek, the boat ride or the safari in Thekkady, it can also be described as experiencing the blissful isolation of nature.
